It hasn’t been that long since the plumber came out, pipes were blocked again and drain cleaner is not only expensive, but damaging to the environment. So I looked up cheaper, better alternatives and as the title suggests, I found a baking soda and vinegar solution.
-Pour a kettle full of boiling water down the sink.
-Pour a lot of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) down the plug hole.
-Ready with the plug, follow that with a lot of vinegar.
-Get the plug over before it froths out of the sink – it won’t do any good if it doesn’t stay in the pipe.
-Finish with another kettle of boiling water.
I would imagine how well it works depends on how bad the pipes are. I couldn’t see into mine to be able to say, but the sink as taking between 5 and 10 minutes to drain, so they were about that bad. The bicarb/vinegar solution worked well at clearing the pipes and I now have a functioning kitchen sink again. But I’m still not washing the pots.
